Got Bike?

I’m going out to the edge again. Do you ride road or mountain? What machines are in your current collection & what do you lust for? Have you ever raced or riden hard?

My roads include Trek Madone, Cannondale R3000, Bianchi Veloce, but favorite is Trek 2300..or maybe Italian Super Strada Torpado (old school friction shifters). Mountains include all hard tails: Liitespeed Pisgah, GT Zaskar, Trek 7000 (pictured on matching Miata).

Then there is my Stingray “Grey Ghost”…

What bikes do you ride and/or want?

My 1974 Peugeot PX10 hangs on the garage wall keeping the 1970 240z company. They prefer '70s rock and roll. Used to road race the bike in high school, rode it in a few triathlons, but I don't ride it much anymore. I'd like to get a modern road bike. Any suggestions (under $1K)?

I'd say go with major manufacturer like Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Specialized, Giant. They all carry a wide range of models w/ different frame geometries to suit your style of riding. Technology from pro racing (Tour de France) trickles down to their entry level bikes. If you chooses to buy new, make sure you like the guys at whichever bike shop as you will be taking it in for warrantee/free tune-ups, etc.

However, I really recomend going to all bike shops & trying everything, and finding your favorite model & correct size frame. Then shop on Ebay for new (last years model) or hardly used bike for half price. Bike people on Ebay seem to be honest folk IMO. Let me know how it goes! Private me if you like.
