what is this?

found this on the drivers side of my 77 280z. can't figure out what it is, but it was open and seems to have a bit of positive pressure going to it.

FYI, it has been converted to a clifford intake and holley 4bbl. not sure if that has anything to do with it, but maybe

also, with this clifford intake, under the carb is three ports. middle one was pluged, and the other two had broken nipples on it, i took them out, and plugged them as i know any vacuum leak isn't any good. are these suppose to go somewhere in particular?

That pipe goes in to your engine's crankcase and would normally have a hose connecting it to the PCV valve on the bottom of the intake manifold. The positive pressure is "blowby" (combustion pressure leaking past the rings).

At wide open throttle it probably has a lot of positive pressure blowing oil vapor in to your engine bay.

ah, i was wondering if it had to do with pcv's. didn't know these relic's had them! so besides trying to piece back together the pcv system, what should i guy do?

I would seem that whoever converted your car to a four barrel setup didn't finish the job.

There is a hose that should go from what you're pointing to to the Positive Crankcase Valve which screws into the intake manifold.

I will try and get a photo on here soon to show you what I'm talking about.

The other thing is the water jacket under the manifold plenum. It should be hooked up but I bet it isnt! :ermm:

ahh good call. i'll research into the water jacket.

i have noticed quite a bit of things that weren't finished on this Z. but for 450 bucks, and another 50 in random bits like seafoam, and a clutch slave, its a damn good runner!

the pcv that i was pointing at should go into the intake, as in one of the three ports i have closed up under the carb, facing the drivers side? so i should get a brass threaded nipple and connect the two?

I'm gonna put all the information into the other thread because it has a much better header than this one.

Thats why its so important to be descriptive when starting a new thread......we can find stuff we need so much better. :bulb:

Cheers.

I have the Arizona Z Car four barrel set up on my 71 240Z and the instructions are to put a screen filter on the pipe , like one that goes on a valve cover and the only vaccum line is one going to the distributor from a ported outlet on the carb. The remainder are blocked off with nipples. You can go to www.arizonaz.com site and see the step by step instructions on the site. I think the Clifford set up would be the same. My intake has no place for the PCV valve to screw into, only a place for the power brake boster hose.
