April 22, 201113 yr comment_353609 I would use just car wax as a sealer. Can be reapplied easily. There are new waxes that do not leave residue such as ice by turtlewax...yeah TW Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38797-protective-treatment-for-nos-ashtray-assembly/?&page=2#findComment-353609 Share on other sites

April 24, 201113 yr comment_353826 Nice find on the NOS ashtray, I am looking for one myself. Now as for preservation, my theory is it's nice to be able to update to NOS items but the original part took 30+ years to get to it's current condition, don't try to keep NOS items pristine you will end up frustrated. Enjoy the ride! jlp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38797-protective-treatment-for-nos-ashtray-assembly/?&page=2#findComment-353826 Share on other sites
April 24, 201113 yr comment_353831 Instead of screen protectors, go to www.xpel.com and buy some bulk 3M paint protection film. Then you can cut it to size and apply it to anything you want to protect. I would be afraid that the ashtray would not open smoothly with a covering over it though. My thought is that if you are so worried about it scuffing, just keep it in the box, and find a decent used one for regular use.
