Posted March 6, 201114 yr comment_348389 hey guys, i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me solve my brakes problem. my rears when driving let out a squealing sound from both the left and right drum brakes. the system is bleed correctly and the pedal has a normal solid feel. if i pull the hand brake while driving and hold it on, all the rear dragging sounds go away. the dragging sound i would describe as sounding like a train. i could take pics or a possible video of it making the sounds. thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38803-rear-brakes-dragging/ Share on other sites
March 6, 201114 yr comment_348390 Methinks you need to remove the rear wheels and drums and have good look at the condition of the shoes and drums. The shoes may be worn out or there may be grit inside the drums. We won't know unless you give it the eyeball:ermm: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38803-rear-brakes-dragging/#findComment-348390 Share on other sites
March 6, 201114 yr comment_348408 Nissanman is right you have check it out. remeber that the rear brakes adjust themselves when you drive in reverse. Jack it up and turn the wheel see where the sound comes from. March 6, 201114 yr comment_348412 A bad wheel cylinder can cause the brakes to drag, too. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38803-rear-brakes-dragging/#findComment-348412 Share on other sites
March 6, 201114 yr comment_348423 I double on that wheel cylinder. Replaced mine and no problems since. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38803-rear-brakes-dragging/#findComment-348423 Share on other sites
March 6, 201114 yr comment_348424 Did the sound just appear out of nowhere? Or did you just do some work on the brakes? If you pried the drums off you might have bent your backing plate. If so, you'll see a white mark on the plate where the drum is rubbing. Also, I believe that Z brakes self-adjust when you use the parking brake.
