Posted March 7, 201114 yr comment_348518 Just finished installing new rear struts and bushings. I'm looking at painting the rear brake drums and am wondering if I should use high temp paint or just a good rust preventative spray paint? I know that the brakes can get hot, but is it hot enough to cause regular spray paint burn? Thanks for any help.1978 280Z coupe. I would use some of the Rustoleum high heat paint or even some of the "BBQ Black" paint. Even these will not be permanent, but will work well. Be prepared for a little bit of "burning paint" smell regardless... March 8, 201114 yr comment_348539 I had a set powder coated. You may want to use a zinc chromate primer for aluminum drums. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38815-brake-drums/#findComment-348539 Share on other sites
August 13, 201113 yr comment_363972 Why not try some VHT satin clear header paint. Does not dry glossy and protects up to a high degree. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38815-brake-drums/#findComment-363972 Share on other sites
August 14, 201113 yr comment_364020 Why paint them? Fashion/style? It can make the heat dissipation worse. Although for drums on the rear this might not be an issue. August 14, 201113 yr comment_364051 I would consider just buffing them up with some metal polish. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38815-brake-drums/#findComment-364051 Share on other sites
