Sailor Bob Posted March 9, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2011 Returned my f150 from a three year lease yesterday. Not really interested in getting another vehicle, but gave the salesman a few minutes of my time anyway. He was wondering why I was not getting another truck and I told him - I dont want a gas guzzler and a lower hp vehicle was not useful or appealing. He says check this out and shows me the specs on the Eco Boost f150. V6 Twin turbo 365 hp, 420 f/lb torque @ 2500 rpm. Gets 29 mpg (cdn) highway, 20 city - full tow package - rated to pull 11,000 lbs. Took it for a spin, this is the crazy part - it pulls like my 300Z. Without traction control on it breaks free vitually every time you hit the gas. Very small T lag. Anyway didnt buy it, but theres one in the driveway - sales man told me to take it home. Wish I hadn't - it's just a tease. Anyone heard anything about this setup - got one? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Z train Posted March 9, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 9, 2011 I've heard nothing but stellar reports on the Eco-boost stuff.Ford's pissing in GM's Wheaties again. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Sailor Bob Posted March 10, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 10, 2011 Brought it back this afternoon and gave it a couple of darts on the open road with about a 1/4 mile ahead of me open, roads slightly wet - both times it broke free and started to go sideways (with traction control on), had to ease the gas to get her under control. I am probably going to buy one after daughter #2 gets married - nice truck, fun and practical too. It has my vote. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cozye Posted March 10, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2011 Why would the canadian model get 29mpg when the US version only gets 22mpg ? Maybe thats 29kpg ?From fords websitehttp://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/engine/ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sblake01 Posted March 10, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 10, 2011 Canada uses imperial gallons which are equal to about 1.2 U.S. gallons IIRC...... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
John Coffey Posted March 10, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 10, 2011 The 3.5 Eb engine is a $4,500 option as I recall. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Sailor Bob Posted March 10, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Just read my last post - meant to mention that I was going 60 km/h when it broke free. Thats about 40 miles per hour. Carl Beck Posted March 10, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 10, 2011 The 3.5 Eb engine is a $4,500 option as I recall.$750.00 on the build a Ford site on top of the top line 2WD Crew Cab.Torture Test - included running the Baja 1000http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/01/what-the-inside-of-a-torture-tested-ecoboost-v-6-looks-like.htmlFWIW,Carl B. John Coffey Posted March 11, 2011 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) On an XL Ford requires the 8' bed option, XL Decor Group, HD Payload, Max Towing, Fog Lamps, plus a few other things. That's why it adds up to $4,650. Basically they want at least $28K for any F150 with the 3.5L EB engine.I had dealer try to locate that truck and it doesn't exist. Its a $35K minimum for a 3.5L EB truck here in SoCal unless you're willing to order one and wait 10 weeks. That's why it adds up to $4,650. Basically they want at least $28K for any F150 with the 3.5L EB engine. I see your point. They don't offer the Eco-Boost V6 as an option in an otherwise "basic" regular cab 1/2 ton. The 8' Bed by itself is a $3175.00 option. On the model I'd be interested in - the engine itself is a $750.00 option. So in my case that's a pretty reasonable option price. The other optional engine on that truck is a 6.2L V8 and it adds $3235.00 to the price.
F-150 Lariat $34,110.00 {includes Trailer Tow and Power Equip Pkg.} Super Crew Cab 6.5' bed $2660.00 Eco-Bost $750.00 {6.2L $3235.00}
If I buy it before the end of March - the Eco-Boost V6 actually only cost me an additional $250.00 - as Ford has a $500.00 rebate on that engine in that truck. I'd say that Ford is trying to "encourage" the use of the V6 instead of the V8 in their most popular models - - perhaps to meet their CAFE standards? At any rate - I'll keep my old 2500HD Crew Cab for a few more years!! FWIW, Carl B. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Sailor Bob Posted March 14, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) The one I brought home was a 6.5 foot bed - taxes in $41,000 cdn. Edited March 15, 2011 by Sailor Bob bedsize Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
