Those are very kind sentiments James given the year your country has had. I'm sure you know first hand what this is like. I can not begin to imagine what it is like to live in the aftermath of such a devastating natural disaster.

Just saw some footage from one of the Portland stations shot on the northern Oregon coast at exactly when the Tsunami was expected to hit. Sure enough there are two extremely intelligent people out on the sand. Kinda makes ya wonder just how much wattage some folks are packing.

Yes, homo sapiens as a species is probably doomed, because "survival of the fittest" has failed. Our technology and civilization has allowed and is allowing the stupid to reproduce faster than their own stupidity is killing them off.

Seriously, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected in Japan - both those few I know personally, and also to the many multitudes I will never meet.

Just rode the thing out in my hotel room bath tub in Narita. Not a fun ride. Scary as hell. Then got to enjoy the 150+ aftershocks, many over 6.0. What fun:paranoid:

With almost no sleep, flew the jet to Guangzhou first thing in the morning. Never thought I'd say I'm glad to be in China. Must say that I was lucky. Sure do feel for those further north on the island.

We can't begin to imagine the horror of this when our feet are on stable ground.

Talking yesterday with a friend up from Christchurch. She was in a veterenarian shop

when the quake hit. She said the liquefaction erupted through the concrete floor.

All the vet instruments and drugs flowed out the door. They finished an op on a cat

outside.

Is this event in Japan part of the same fault line as the Christchurch quake. ?

That fault line is continuous from NZ north all the way to Alaska on the west side of the Pacific Ocean and down the west coast of Canada, the US all the way to the tip of South America. It's called the Ring of Fire. Do a search and it'll show you that there about a zillion four hundred million events a year along this fault system. That big deal in Indoneia is all part of the same system. We are all just floating along on top of some pretty agressive stuff.

Everyday that goes by without the BIG ONE hitting where you are just means you are one day closer to the day when it will happen.

Beware low miler import motors from Japan.....

Holy shite. One day I may be able to drive my 240 to the US.
