March 12, 201114 yr comment_349028 Coop,You mean Narita airport is operational again? That is good news. I have a co-worker who sent us an email from Narita after the quake. He was waiting on his flight and they shut everything down. I haven't been able to get back in touch with him since. Hopefully he is on his way to the U.S.Stay away from the seafood in China, and have a safe trip home. March 13, 201114 yr comment_349034 I think the concern now is over the reactors , which is a real problem even the scientists are wringing their hands over . :paranoid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38857-japan-quake/?&page=2#findComment-349034 Share on other sites
March 13, 201114 yr comment_349035 I think they use Boiling Water Reactors which means they can just pump in some seawater to keep them cool enough, however, that seawater now becomes contaminated. This all hinges on having: Large enough pumps, enough power to run them, and no leaks. I think they should really get anything and everybody, way out of the way, as fast as possible. They are completely out of safety margins at this point. The quake has used 8 lives of the cat, so to speak. March 13, 201114 yr comment_349046 You mean Narita airport is operational again?Yes it is up and running. We were one of the first planes out, being FedEx and all. We have to go back in there on Friday morning and then ride to LAX on American. I hope things calm down by then. I've been tracking the aftershocks and one 6.2 just hit an hour ago and less than 100 miles away from the airport. It just keeps on happening. Here is a site that is about 20 minutes behind "real time" that shows the magnitudes and locations. Pretty interesting.http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Maps/10/140_35.php Edited March 13, 201114 yr by Arne form Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38857-japan-quake/?&page=2#findComment-349046 Share on other sites

March 14, 201114 yr comment_349161 To the good people of JAPAN you have our thoughts and prayers. Yokohama was nearby some of the most extreme devastation. The build plate on the right front strut tower of my 1970 says "DATSUN MOTOR COMPANY YOKOHAMA JAPAN". Not sure if NISSAN is still based out of Yokohama if so be prepared to wait for anymore 370's and watch for the price tags on available ones to skyrocket. March 14, 201114 yr comment_349172 To all our fellow S30 mates in Japan, all our thoughts are with you in this terrible time.We hope that Kats and his family are safe and unhurt. James Katz lives in Nara Prefecture, but he is from Sendai-City, Miyagi-Prefecture, where is damage is the worst. I wonder if his family is OK. His family should be living more towards inland, not on the coast I believe. I will let you know as soo as I hear from him. March 14, 201114 yr comment_349185 Just rode the thing out in my hotel room bath tub in Narita. Not a fun ride. Scary as hell. Then got to enjoy the 150+ aftershocks, many over 6.0. What fun:paranoid:With almost no sleep, flew the jet to Guangzhou first thing in the morning. Never thought I'd say I'm glad to be in China. Must say that I was lucky. Sure do feel for those further north on the island.Glad you are ok. The canal area in Guangzhou is nice place to walk and relax. March 14, 201114 yr comment_349186 A lot of significant tectonic activity in very recent years (indonesia, chile, china, japan). I have a hunch the plates under calif or alaska will soon make adjustments given the stress releases in other areas. March 15, 201114 yr comment_349295 Thank you everyone, thank you for your kind word. I am fine:)Like Gary said, thank you James, New Zealand too, I hope everyone facing hard situation in those area can resume nromal daily life as soon as possible. Before the quake,I was planing to visit my mothers home with my son where is located near Sendai city-the worst damage area(thank you esprist!).But I flew only me, took 600miles trip from my house. When I hit the quake , I was in a car with my mother, that was so scared.Magnitude 9.0 that was unbelievably shaking everything. But, we are all fine and nothing damaged, just some books and glasses were fallen off from the shelves. 3 nights without electric lighting, but water and gas for cooking were normal,so the meals were normal each day.My elder sister also fine and managed to drive home, we talked about my father (passed away 2005) "he gathered all! " I decided to leave my mothers home with my Datsun, only this car had fuel on a half of its tank, that was very marginal quantity, but I made a decision. No-train, no highway , airport was gone, no gas station, only one choice was took the car for EVAC.I had been monitoring radio everyday ,I found the best route to drive, west coast of Japan sea area has not damaged, if my Datsun runs good fuel consumption, I could reach the area, and she did! I found a gas station before running out on fuel, and good highways for all the way home ,I took almost 24hours driving from my mother's home to my home.I thank you my Datsun 240Z, that was a great run.She runs always smooth and reliable. As you see on my web page, there are some pictures of my 240Z in snow condition, that was I had parked the 240Z at my mother's home.Almost 5 years I had visited and taken for a ride at mother's home once a month. Now 2 Zcars(240Z and Z432) are sitting on my home side by side.
