Where to get 5 Speeds

I want a 5 speed but cant find any zx or z around that seems to have them.

I want to know if there are other models of Nissan or any other car that share a similar trans. hopefully you can tell me also if the 280zx 5speed and the 240-280z splines will match when swapping in a 5 speed.

thank you

Direct bolt in, and may require a bit of center console wall modification depending on the year of your car.

There are a few on eBay right now, including a few rebuilt ones. Craigslist is the best source... Just look for people parting out 280Z and 280ZX's and ask them for the transmission. Datsun Parts LLC sells rebuilt ones, although I haven't heard anything but negative comments about them. You may also want to make sure your differential gear ratio is the same as your cog ratio in the transmission, so your speedo doesn't go crazy.

280zx's are fairly common-you should be able to find one. However, they will probably need a rebuild. This will cost $400-$600 at a shop, or you can buy a rebuild kit for around $130.00 and do the work yourself. If you find someone trying to sell an entire car that has a difficult time, ask them if they will part it out.

TY

KC should have ample salvage yards with one or a few Z cars sitting around. You may even get lucky enough to get one that you can put right in with no major work needed.

NOOOOOOOO WAY.

If a Z has made its way by some chance to a yard here. It will be gone within the day at the most.

Ive been scouring criagslist for zx's and everyone has whole working cars or wrecked ones with auto trans. I refuse to buy on ebay or from a company I dont trust the quality.

There is a Z Club in KC, or was in 09, they were well represented at the Midwest Z-Fest in Tulsa that year. That would be a major hook-up for parts swapping.

I know what you mean about no Z's around here. Seven years ago a salvage dealer stopped by and bought a junk car. He saw my dusty primered Z and asked if I needed any parts. I told him no, everything was there. He said 'good, I just crushed 22 of them last week'.

WTF!?!? I hate when they crush down cars that clearly are valuable. Ive seen a 2003 BMW sit in a yard for over 3 months but Ive seen salvagers crush down RX7's after they have been in the yard for like a week or less. Its a damn shame. If I witness something liek that I would be pretty cranky

Don't forget the FS5W71C (200sx, 240sx and 300xz's) with 5speed "guts" that mate to machined stock bell housings and a bit of drive shaft work.
