I've had that problem before, It ended up being the fusebox one time and a "broken but looked fine" fuse just recently. checkout the fuses first and if they turn out to be OK, then look to see if you have melted plastic around the lights fuses.

Hope this helps!!

I'm in with the 'check your fuses' crowd. My old 280Z spontaneously developed a weak passenger-side headlight one day. After spending an afternoon disassembling and checking it to find it in perfect shape I decided to flip the fuse about. Voila, fixed. Stupid fuses.

Yes, checking the fuses would be a very bright thing to do.

I had this issue several months ago, and assumed the headlight was on it's way out, as a cursory check of the fuses and fusibles showed no issue.

I went to the store and bought two new headlights (I'm in the 'if one is going, the other is soon to follow' camp) and swapped them out.

Turn on lights, one still dim....

Rechecked the fuses, there's the problem....

Fuses are notorious for developing cracks and sagging after years of use. The recommendation is to change the fuses every couple of years because of this condition.

My opinion: Replace both headlight fuses on an S30 first and see if the problem is corrected. If not, a common issue is feedback on a blown headlight through the ground side causing one headlight to be dim.

Then after that it's connections, grounds, bad combo switch, bad fuse box.

Trace and repair.

DVOM and testlight, (maybe a short detector) are your friends along with the wiring diagram.
