bought a new floor jack yesterday on sale $119 ( regular $159) plus tax. it's a 1.5 ton which is heavy duty enough for changin tires and oil. it'll only go to 15" high max and is low profile. not sure if this is high enough to get jack stands under. i was using my brother's 3 ton jack but it barely lifts the wifes car to change tires. had to pump many times to get maximun lift. hope it holds up for a few years, these jack don't have a good reputation for quality.

Don't care much for the aluminum jack most places sell. They try to capitalize on the preception of the 'Nascar' type but the real ones cost upwards of $600! I have a 2 1/2 ton heavy cast iron floor jack that I bought years ago at Harbor Freight. The only thing that has gone wrong with it was the handle spring broke and they sent me a new one free. Max lift on it is 22".

basicly wanted low profile. normal jacks won't go under the zed or wifes mustang.

I know for sure that won't lift high enough to get a transmission out from under the car. My sears low profile jack won't go any higher.

Mine is not only low profile enough for the Z (2 7/8" minimum heigth) but it worked for my 1600 roadster and presently works for my GTO. I can do transmissions with it also because I have an adapter that fits on the jack and actually adds to it's maximum height.

I have a Pro-Lift 3300 lb model (really small) one of my ex-boyfriends got me about 18 years ago. Had to press it down to get low enough to go under the chunk of my RX-7s but lifts high enough for me to comfortably do jack stands to change transmission fluids. Seals are all still great & it pumps up like a champ. Heavy sucker.

I have a aluminum, jack I picked 2003 that I still use from Sam's for $35. They were clearancing them, they were shipped vertically and were meant to be stored flat and were not; so air got into the fluid, so I bled the jack and am still using it.

Got a Craftsman aluminum jack 4 years ago. Goes under the Z and lifts high enough for jackstands. A single pump lifts to touch. A good unit.

I have a Husky 1-1/2 ton that worked well for a few years but now needs replacement. I'll go better quality next time.

If you need more lift on the jack, place a 2x4 between the jack and the lift point.
