Manteca isn't very big... It has two hospitals but one was surrounded by corn fields as little as 5 years ago. Two big streets Main and Yosemite. Highway 99 to the East, 5 to the West... Car dealers are on the East side of town...

Manteca does have the Bass Pro Shop

My first impression was also Manteca when reading the scan

Hi All...I am new to the club and have a '72 Z (HLS30-74857...built in April) that was originally delivered to Manteca Datsun, then transferred to nearby Riviera Datsun in Fairfield. My car's warranty book has its original Calif. smog check stapled inside that shows it was first at Manteca Datsun. The check was done on 5/30/72 when the car had 44 miles on its odometer. It was transferred sometime after that to Riviera, and sold to its first owner as a new car on 8/5/72 with 437 miles on the odometer. Was it used as a demo, or as a dealer's personal car? Why was it transferred, and why did the 2nd dealer keep it for so long when Zs were selling so quickly at that time? Riviera Datsun became Fairfield Datsun by 4/73, then Courtesy Datsun by the late '70s...turbulent times for that Datsun location.

I worked for a Datsun dealer back in the early 70s. I remember them doing that when one dealership had a customer that wanted a car that the dealership they were at didn't have in stock. The car would get transferred but sometimes the deal would fall through. By 72 they weren't selling quite as fast as they did in 69/70. Likely the deal fell through and the car did become a demo until it was sold.

My 240Z (built in 4/72) was originally delivered to Manteca Datsun where it received its first Calif. smog check on 5/30/72 (odometer read 00044). The smog document was stapled to the inside of my car's warranty book, along with its first Calif. registration. One odd thing is the bottom of the smog document says "Xfer to Riviera Datsun" (a dealership in nearby Fairfield, CA). My car was sold to its first owner on 8/5/72 when the odometer read 437 miles. I have posted a couple of photos (taken when the car was new) in another thread.
