Posted March 23, 201114 yr comment_350439 Okay, my situation is this. I got original antenna when i bought the car but the mast was busted. Now i've purchased another motor antenna with mast on, BUT they are different (see the picture) Will both fit in 240Z? AND will the mast from the left one fit to the right one? There is a problem here, left one has pristine mast but engine seems to be busted, it sounds like " wank wank wank" when the other sounds "buzzzzzzzz" What should i do? I'd mount the replacement Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38996-motor-antenna-repair/#findComment-350440 Share on other sites

March 23, 201114 yr comment_350460 It's likely a dirt issue that causing the "wank" sound. You can disassemble it, clean out any identifiable detritus, and see if that helps. At least that's what I'd do. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38996-motor-antenna-repair/#findComment-350460 Share on other sites
March 23, 201114 yr comment_350518 I agree take it apart and clean it out they get really cruddy inside and the out side will look fine. I rebuilt the one for my last Z and my current one I still need to do that. I'll try to finish mine and if you need parts after I have a good one I could send you what you need Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38996-motor-antenna-repair/#findComment-350518 Share on other sites
March 24, 201114 yr Author comment_350584 I inspected some more. I already have cleaned both but apparently not good enough. I took out the round dome off from the left one to see does it work at all. It does turn half a turn quickly (both ways) but then it stucks. I better start dismantling it into pieces, just gotta figure how to remove the final part over the gearwheel.I had my electrician friend to inspect both of them and they seem to be electrically ok. March 24, 201114 yr comment_350587 The antenna it self just lets things in, heck it has its own drain tube it allows that much water in. It's a little messy to do but I thought it was worth doing it spraying/soaking the antenna with a quality lubricating penetrating oil till it drips out the drain tube every year or so as maintenance these antenna are not cheap as we all know. It don't take long before you will find corrosion inside of it after you clean it if you don't do something Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38996-motor-antenna-repair/#findComment-350587 Share on other sites
March 24, 201114 yr Author comment_350604 Can you pull the antenna up "manually" ? I tried it (not by force) but it didnt raise. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38996-motor-antenna-repair/#findComment-350604 Share on other sites
March 24, 201114 yr comment_350656 Koalia,I have one that you can have. I am not sure of the Mast, but it otherwise appears complete. It came from a '78 Z. In the spirit of "Paying It Forward" just pick up the shipping and it is yours. PM me if interested. March 25, 201114 yr comment_350759 Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone have either of the two small black plastic trim pieces that go at the base of an electric antenna from a 75? One of them goes in from the inside and the other little "dome" sits on top of the base from the outside. I have the pieces but they look terrible. Actually my inside one is broken.Bryan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/38996-motor-antenna-repair/#findComment-350759 Share on other sites
