Front Fenders

Still working on all the rust repairs. Does anyone have the proper procedures for removing the fenders off the front of the 240? Thanks

The fenders are pretty much the mounting point for everything else on the front end... so they will be the last thing off. Break the electrical connections and remove the side marker lights and the cowl lights. Start with the bumper, then the center valance, then the valance corners. Next would be the headlight buckets or sugar scoops- be very careful not to break the small threaded posts (lots of rust eater first!). I recommend you get the headlight retainers off but they can come off with the fenders. Probably the inspection lids next if not already off. Zip bag & tag all your fasteners right as they come off each part, not when all is done. You are finally ready to get the fenders off.

pretty complete description, but no need to remove the headlight buckets, they can come with the fender if you remove the valance corners. Don't forget the two bolts under the cowl and the one you see when you open the door. oh, the the two bolts that are hiding in behind the hood hinges by the rad support witht the hood up. And yes to lots of rust eater first! (no WD40!)

There are 1 or 2 bolts on the bottom that might be covered up with putty from the factory, and are most likely rusted all to hell. I just took my fenders off and kicked the bottom off since it was nearly rusted apart anyway.

I attempted to take off my '78 280z cpe by starting to take the 2 bolts where the jack points are, bolts in engine area from in front of cowl up to headlight bucket, I was able to actually see what's behind it, debris e.g. leaves, etc. but stopped as there were other bolts which were holding the fender and I got anxious that I might not be able to complete the job that I intended to do, align the driver side door, beside the curiosity how the inner metal condition is behind the fender.
