Posted April 11, 201113 yr comment_352414 I need to strip the paint off my taillight surround. Do you think glass media in a blast cabinet would be too harsh on the plastic? I was thinking of turning the pressure down real low and testing a spot on the back of the panel. April 11, 201113 yr comment_352423 I used paint stripper, that way I didn't have to try to remove the chrome surround without bending, or blasting to oblivion. Worked real well.Bonzi Lon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39183-media-blasting-taillight-surround/#findComment-352423 Share on other sites
April 11, 201113 yr comment_352425 If they truly ARE plastic, the MEK in the stripper would likely deform them or mar the surface beyond repair. Additionally, the MEK would seep under the chrome trim piece on the light opening's edge and cause you trouble when you re-painted. You may have dodged a bullet.E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39183-media-blasting-taillight-surround/#findComment-352425 Share on other sites
April 11, 201113 yr Author comment_352429 If I wanted to ruin it I would just run it over with my truck. That plastic would be in a gooie pile using a chemical stripper. I think you have a 240z though which is metal, safe there.I used paint stripper, that way I didn't have to try to remove the chrome surround without bending, or blasting to oblivion.
