Posted April 18, 201113 yr comment_353147 My daily 280z just had the auto 3 speed fail. A guy I know gave me a 4 speed for free. I ordered a clutch kit and a flywheel and they don't match up. Can anyone tell me if there are different sizes, or maybe what sizes they should be? According to the companies I ordered them from they are both correct. So I need to figure out whats wrong so I can return it quickly! April 18, 201113 yr Author comment_353151 the pressure plate seems too small for the flywheel. the dowels and holes do not match up? April 18, 201113 yr Author comment_353153 i think maybe its a flywheel for a 2+2. If I get a clutch kit for a 2+2, will it work with my 2 seater? Or should I get a different flywheel? April 18, 201113 yr Author comment_353166 well after some research it looks like i might have the 2+2 flywheel. makes sense because its too big? anyways, i can not find any stock flywheels for the base 280z. and i dont have the money for a light one. any one have any suggestions? April 18, 201113 yr comment_353169 I'm not expert in this, but I think the 2+2 clutch kit should work fine on a 2+2 flywheel in a non-2+2 car. The disk and cover will be larger to match the larger friction surface of the 2+2 flywheel. April 18, 201113 yr Author comment_353171 awesome, so i guess i will just go with a 2+2 clutch kit and flywheel on my base. that's what i was assuming as well becasue the light weight ones have holes for both sizes of clutches, which means that they must be the same size. and the forks are the same, so the clutch kit must work for both. April 18, 201113 yr comment_353172 The only issue is the TO bearing collar MIGHT be 2+2 specific.I know there is a difference between the car collars and the truck ones. The TO bearing collar MUST match the PP. April 18, 201113 yr comment_353192 There are two factory flywheels, the stock regular everyday 4 and 5 speed equiped cars, and then the 2+2 and turbo flywheels. Each has a clutch diameter for that particular flywheel. The new clutch kit should come with a new bearing. Many of the kits come with the complete collar, others just with the replacement bearing. The forks are the same. There are at least two, if not three, different depths of collars and it is critical that you get the correct one. The collar is dependant on the clutch, not on the trans type or flywheel size. When assembled, there will be a small amount of movement of the collar and bearing against the pressure plate. If there isn't movement, the collar is to long. If there is a lot of movement, the collar is to short (1/2" movement for example). When you get a kit, it is the simplest to get one with the collar and bearing together. It might cost $20 more, but it is well worth it. I just bought an oe style sachs kit with lifetime warranty from Orielly's that came with the collar for under a $100. This was the smaller of the two, but seriously doubt there is much difference in the price. Good luck.
