I made a few changes to the server to help improve a few things:

1) http cookie. After upgrading to our new software I noticed that cookies were being stored on client computers without our domain. This had a tendency to allow the cookie to expire when a member entered either the gallery, PM's, or the classifieds. I changed it so all modules use the same cookie storage domain as .classiczcars.com. After testing, it appears to work fine.

2) Performance. I've been seeing a performance impact after the update. Our standard SQL and HTTP configurations were not configured correctly. Today I was able to find some recommended settings and made these changes to the config files accordingly. After a few tests, the new config appears to be working fine and has increased performance at least on my end. Have things improved overall? I'll give it a few days to see.

Thanks for your patience!

Mike

ZZBoris has had a busy weekend, Up til last week Stephen Blakesly had the most posts record at around 5000 as memory serves but this morning I see that record has been summarily snatched away with a new total of 4,294,967,285 posts. Wow!! Musta been peein' in a bag or something all weekend.

Oh, yeh and I still have to go to that section under "most posts" to find "what's new" link to messages. What's new up above is still hidden behind the white search box.

Yeah, that is a recurring problem. I hoped it would go away with the upgrade, but sadly it did not. It's fixed for now.

Hi Bruce, I'm lost... (again)..... Where are you seeing that many posts by ZZBoris? I looked at his profile and don't see it. I also cannot find a user with the name Stephen Blakesly.

The What's New button is hidden for you? Wow, you are also missing Events, Classifieds, and Gallery buttons then. What kind of screen resolution are you running? Hell Bruce, you have to get rid of that 13" tube monitor and 640x480 resolution you used in the DOS days man.... Please tell me you see this site in color. :D :D :D :D

Mike:

Earlier today ZZBoris was listed as the highest poster instead of SBlake01 (Who is Stephen Blakeney). Arne addressed ZZBoris in the response immediately prior to yours.

Bruce may be using one of the original Amber CRT's so don't go too hard on him.

Stephen is showing up again with 9000 or so, so old Boris was funnin' us with that several billion nonsense..... I think Arne is on it.

That first blue line of sections the lighter blue line (proves I can make out colors) on my 24" flat panel, thank you very much, monitor shows everything across to "blog". About half the g is cut off by the white box and the next thing I can see is the thing that looks like a squash racket. That's why I had to resort to that page that tells how many posts I have, how many old record setter has, how many since my last visit etc. to find something to take me to new posts.

Just put a "jump start for old farts" button in the upper right hand corner of the home page and let everyone else putz with the rest of that stuff.

Freeking technology everywhere I turn. Nyuck nyuck

Bruce;

Your monitor's resolution is set at 800 x 600, and the screen "collapses" upon itself.

If you're doing that so you can see it better on other programs, then I don't know if you can do something else.

If you were to configure your monitor to a higher resolution... 1024 x 768 is what I'm running, you'd see the whole page. You can always use the magnification feature of IE to zoom in on the page.

FWIW

Oh, and Mike you are correct the first two boxes on the left hand side of the page have overscribed words on each of those two boxes so I really can't say what they say but I think gallery is in there somewhere. FAQ is the first thing I can read to the right of the overscribe. That would be in the darker blue line.

Yea, the resolution thing is a tough one. I'm trying to decide which buttons we can get rid of, but, they all seem important at this point. I'll see what I can do to support the lower resolutions by either going with a different theme or moving that search box somewhere else.

Don't feel too bad Bruce, I'm getting this from other places as well. You're just the only one who knows how to articulate it to me in the right way. LOL Old fart button coming soon... Glad to see you're at least on a flat panel and in COLOR!!! You've got me by a few inches on that screen.

Serious question, what resolution are you running? And are you maximizing the browser? Just collecting info for my development.

m

Mikey Mikey Mikey,

If I knew what the Sam Hill you were talking about with that resolution thing and other stuff I doubt I'd be having these problems in the first place. Think I might want to run the disk that came with this monitor? When I got the monitor, I hooked it up, plugged it in and it took off like a scalded dog. When you're my age, scalding dogs is good......

Oh, yes this morning's rendition of fubar has all the dark blue boxes over to "Vendors" double printed. It's growing I tell ya. Run for your lives!!

Mike and Bruce, If Bruce is running FireFox for his browser he can use the mouse with a wheel to reduce or enlarge the viewing resolution by holding down the CTRL key and moving (rolling) the wheel forward or back to change the resolution in the screen. I think you can change the resolution in the newer version EI also, I don't use EI so I am not sure.
