Rally Badges & Emblems

A question was asked about 2 badges that where mounted on the front of the car.

A discussion was started about non zed badges that where displayed on the front of his car. Rather than hijack the thread, here is an opportunity to post and tell about the badges that you may have acquired either in your zed or as a navigator.

Zeds, have a proud history in Rallying around the world, many of these rally would have or still are "high" profile events in which the organisers would present a commemorative badge or emblem that the driver would generally proudly mount on the front of his car to indicate his battle against the route the rally took.

Similarly, the Navigator would mount his on a "brag" board, suitably hung over a bar.....

Use this thread to post pic's of any you have, with a history of the event.

here are some photos of the two badges mentioned about on my project 240z. Any info would be great. Good idea with the new thread, there are loads of different badges and emblems I'm sure and nice to create a reference area here.

It might not have any connection but the cloverleaf badge looks a lot like the cloverleaf badges Alfa Romeo uses. The only difference is I can't remember to have seen a square shaped one before. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3438920122_85b642fba6.jpg

Alfa used the Quadrofolio as a good luck charm at the Targa Florio. They applied it to one of their race cars early on, and had success. They continued the tradition. If that badge was used on the rally Z cars, it was probably "borrowed" technology from Alfa, who borrowed the good luck charm from the beginning of time..

yes i noticed that Alfa's were using the clover. but can't really find any reference on 240s

Racing Mate was a racing accessory company founded by the Japanese race car driver Soukichi Shikiba. The company’s distinctive green and white yotsuba (four-leaf clover in Japanese) logo was a constant sight on Nihon race cars throughout the 1960s and 70s.

Still, the design is different and it's inverted.

As a four-leaf clover according to tradition bring good luck, I suppose a lot of racing teams added them for just that. Not necessarily with any other story behind it.
