Posted April 21, 201113 yr comment_353474 I have a chance to basically pick up a set of front KYB struts for the 77 for free. Customer of mine is selling down their KYB inventory and just happens to have the light duty (non GR-2) struts on hand. I don't want to base any future plans around a front set of shocks because they are cheap, however... In the future I would like to go with some Tokico or Eibach lowering springs. 1) I know KYB does not recommened using any of their struts on lowered cars. Has anyone done so anyhow with non GR2 struts? How is the ride?2)Another parts distributor of mine is becoming a Tokico WD in the next 3 months. Should I just wait and go with Tokico? Seems the adjustables are the way to go? I will never autocross or race this car, so when making suggestions please keep that in mind.3) No matter what I pick will I have trouble fitting 16" Rota RB-R wheels in the future? I think I will go with +4 for a little deeper look, but have not totally made up my mind on the offset. I don't think I will go staggered or wider wheels in the rear even though my ultimate goal is a 280ZXT motor with a goal of 250rwhp when done. Thanks for any help. April 21, 201113 yr comment_353478 I only ever tried KYB's on my 99 Rav4. They were much stiffer than stock. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39316-kyb-front-struts-feelings-on-kyb/#findComment-353478 Share on other sites
April 21, 201113 yr comment_353484 I've not heard of "light-duty" KYB shocks. How are they described?I do know that the GR-2s are now called Excel-Gs. It's on the KYB web site. They say that they are the same except for color and name.http://www.kyb.com/technical/faq/faq06.php Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39316-kyb-front-struts-feelings-on-kyb/#findComment-353484 Share on other sites

April 21, 201113 yr comment_353514 I have Tokiko Illumina struts on my lowered '70. Set at the "softest" setting, the ride is pretty stiff ( I wouldn't call it "buckboard" stiff, though ). I also run Konig Rewinds, 16 x 7 w/0 offset. No clearance issues w/225-50 Yokohama rubber. April 21, 201113 yr comment_353523 With the success I've had running KYBs, unless you are driving the car daily, I doubt you'll ever wear them out. Extremely pleased with both performance and longevity.
