Help stop

Need Z stop

Will travel stop

Hi guys. I'm a young (quickly getting old) lad from Sydney and I've recently fallen victim to the Z charm. I've been looking for a very short while and the two Z's I've seen have not been exactly what I wanted. So what is it that I want? A great body naturally and a decent interior. Mechanicals do not matter much.

I'm prepared to pay for a good example and prepared to travel. However, please be honest if you are from interstate. [rant] Last trip I made to QLD for another car I got burned as the guy was not too honest. Fool must've thought ''Yeah, he'll change his mind and buy my piece of crap if he comes all the way here."[/rant]

Will only travel after holiday season.

Thanks for reading

Yeah I've been checking the post and every other classified paper I can find. Not too many in there but what I have seen has been a dissapointment.

Patience looks to be a must if I want a decent one. Either that or spend a stack on restoration.

How long did it take you to find yours? I see you're a Skyline man as well. Go to www.skylinesaustralia.com This club is growing everyday.

That's just the thing. I was looking at VL Calais Turbo's back in late '95 (~$20,000AUD worth).

A mate of mine pointed out a 260Z in a local yard one day when we were doing the rounds. I made it clear that I wasn't a fan, but would have a 300 Turbo if the price was right.

A couple of months later, Dad found a 240Z in another local yard. By then I was getting a little more desperate for transport & the asking price of $5000AUD was something I could pay for in cash.

(It was also a car that we decided that we could play with a bit)

It was completely stock & original, but had really crap wheels, retreads & a cracked drum (and a heck more as it turns out - found over many years).

The deal went through providing they fixed the brakes.

Once the bank balance had recovered, it was shod in 15x7 Superlites, Koni/Kmac/Nolathane & 4x4 Hilux brakes. Within 6-months the engine was rebuilt (did I say it had a thirst for water?) & a year after that, it had a custom TO4 kit made up. 2 years later I decided that the rust was beginning to get unsightly (bubbles on the doors etc). So in March 1999 it was completely stripped.

I hope to have an engine in it (L28ET) by the end of the year!!!

I'll have a look at that web page, but I spend a lot of time with the Nissan SVD owners club already, when I could re-building the Z :classic:

Thanks Mike but I've got my heart set on 240. A 90% complete project just sold for $3.5k. All the body work was meticulously done so it would have been perfect for me leaving me to go either this way or that way with type of engine diff and tranny but alas it was not meant to be.

Ben, there's one in the paper now advertised for $9.5k (he will go lower too) but it needs a blue slip which he said he'll provide. It's been off the road since May and is in relatively good condition. However, he's had it painted last year and rust bubles are appearing everywhere and in high concentration under the bonnet. It doesn't seem like it's worth the money or hassle to me. How is the SVD club going? I don't hear much about them in Sydney.

I'm in W.A. so it would be a case of buying sight-unseen. However, it seemed to be a sound car that basically needed about $AUD1500 spend to bring it up to scratch... $500 for the diff mount and uni joints and $1000 for derustification of the guard and bonnet nose. I'm all for orignality in these cars and this one came close: original engine and gearbox, badgework complete and the interior redone in original materials. The drawbacks were the lack of books, the 260Z bonnet and the owners vague memory when it came to how many kms he'd put on the car. He's had it since he was 18 (for 14 yrs or so) and its showing 57,000 Miles (not kms like it says in the ad). My guess is that its been around the dial. I had it checked out by Z16 (a Datsun workshop) and the guy said that it was definitely not the worst he'd seen. The only thing that stopped me was that I offered $8k which he would not accept. That plus the shipping and work to be done would have turned it into a $10.5k car on the road in Perth. If you're interested, I have a more complete set of pics... just give me your email address...

He should be able to put you in touch.

Warren's a nice bloke, very helpful, knows ZEDS backwards.
