Posted April 29, 201113 yr comment_354427 First of all, I know zero about carbs...my motto was that I always wanted to know a good carb guy, but never wanted to be one...except my carb guy retired and moved to the lake, so here I am. I put triple mik 44's on my stock 72 240z for show purposes. And it worked, I was in six shows and got six first places. Mission accomplished. But I gave up the fun of driving, in order to have a car that looked and sounded pretty sweet. I'm now going to remove the Mik's and put "something" else on. Don't know what the something is. I see a lot of posts about Z-Therapy, but I also see these Weber's on Zcar parts:http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/PFFC02What's the diff between the two? I still would like something that shows well, but I'm tired of not having the fun driver that I once had.So goal #1...performance ahead of fuel mileage, goal #2 is to have it look good. April 29, 201113 yr comment_354428 DGVs are not good looking. You'd be better off looks-wise going back to the stock SUs. A good set of those will drive and perform nicely on a stock or mildly modified motor. As for "giving up the fun of driving", it sounds like your 44s are too much carb for your motor. Can we assume that the motor is mostly stock? Because on a modded engine, triple Mikunis can be pretty sweet. April 29, 201113 yr comment_354430 I'm sure some basic knowledge of carbs is needed for any basic set up / tune, whether it is SU's, Webers, or Triples..............have you tried Todd at WolfCreek Racing for a rebuild?? Do you know your current set up on the Mikuni's? What do your plugs look like? If you gave up the "fun of driving" it may be good that your carb guy moved away - he may have been the problem - not the solution......................post some pictures and details when you get a chance. We all like lots of pictures!! April 30, 201113 yr comment_354460 Jeff - If your car has been sitting for several years there is a good bet that your current carbs are all gummed up (unless you used Seafoam or another product to keep the fuel in a liquid state). I'm sure those carbs will need to come off and cleaned and gone through completely, and have the set up edited to work with your engine............Arnie is right IMO - with a stock L24 your 44's have overcarb'd for your engine size. I'm sure a set of nice SU's would work great or get those Mikuni's in somebodys hands that can re-work them with the correct jets and chokes that can maximize your current engine set up. Call Todd at WolfCreek Racing and discuss with him. He can steer you in the right direction if the 44's can work for your driving style and current engine set up. April 30, 201113 yr Author comment_354491 The car hasn't been completely lockedd up in storage. It probably has 200 miles on it in the last 5 years (I had to hide from my ex-wife during my divorce!!). And I've already started it this year, so it's still running, but since the carbs are coming off anyway, i'll go thru plugs/filters/fuel lines, etc when I do the swap. I also have a 280ZX that I put a 350 V8 in. So,the rest of the story will be that I am selling that 350 V8 (it was built by Hovis racing in St. Louis) to a guy and taking that money to build out a 240 block that can handle the triple Mik's . then I'll put that built out 240 motor with the Miks on it back into the 240 and sell the 280zx shell (which I had restored with all new body panels and new metal), which will get me down to 1 Z..the 240. I couldn't find any pix last night (my old computer blew up a while back and I guess the pix were on it). I'll go to the storage barn this weekend and get some. Does anybody have any pix they can post of some "show ready" SU or Weber carb setups?
