limited slip differential

i was looking for a rear end to convert the rear-end of my 72. and one person offered that he have one limited slip differential for $300.00. my first question is is it worth that much? my second question is my should i look for to know that it is not the "viscous type" that they said is not good. i have not seen any of them.

what do i need to fit this rear end to my 72?

Most of the viscous type LSD's were in the later Z series, don't know that one is available for the earlier type diffs.

If this is an R-180 with a LSD in it, 300 is a very fair price. The Nismo LSD's were in the 700+ neighborhood when new. That was just for the limited slip itself. If it is an R-180 it is just a simple bolt in job.

If it is in an R-200 you'll need the rear suspension crossmember from a later 280 that came with the R-200, the mustache bar form the 280 and the front diff mount for the R-200.

Viscous R200s came in the '88 pearl white SS 300ZX turbos. Apparently they aren't as easy a bolt-in as the clutch-type units that came in the other 4/87 - '89 300ZX turbos. Clutch type is preferred for max performance, anyway. I'd say $300 isn't too bad, if the breakaway torque is OK (maybe 25+ lb-ft). You could find one for less if you keep looking, but if you want it now, go ahead.
