2ManyZs Posted December 17, 2002 Share #2 Posted December 17, 2002 You should investigate as to whether or not the rust is coming from under the windshield gasket. If it is, you really should take out the windshield and fix it corrrectly, otherwise it will only come back and the damage will be even worse and the cost will go up accordingly. St.stephen Posted December 17, 2002 Share #3 Posted December 17, 2002 Lets see, where to look for rust on the Z car.....1. Under the battery tray, 2. inner fender wells behind the brake lines, 3. lip where the frame rail meets the inner fender well, 4. lower portion of the rad support, 5. floors, 6. inside the engine comapartment where the inner fender well attaches to the frame rail7. toe boards8. rockers9. Rear lip where the hatch meets back end of the car10. wheel arches11. inner rockers12. entire floor inside the car UNDERNEATH the carpet 13. firewall14. Support rail underneath the fender15. inside the cowl16. bottoms of the doors17. top of the windshield (this one is actually common)18. rear quarters19. Rear panel (under the bumper)20. headlight bucket mounts take yourself out a measuring tape. go inside the engine compartment and measure 6 inches up from the bottom of the frame rail....that six inches worth of metal all the way around the entire vehicle is prone to rust. you need to get the car up on jackstands, remove the wheels, get a flashlight and a screwdriver.....and start poking and prodding. Rust hides underneath the undercoating and an area that looks solid may just surprise you as the screwdriver pokes through.

New_BE Posted December 18, 2002 Author Share #5 Posted December 18, 2002 Alright thanks alot..i do have a magazine from way back when the car was new and in sport mags and such..i got them along with the car, and they tell ya the places prone to rust...i was curious...if i did have a rust hole through the grame rail in the engine bay area, what does it take to fix this? I saw another Z and the guy was selin it however the frame rail had a hole about an inch by two in it. Woudl u need to cut this out and weld another piece the same size back in? i didn't really check the engine bay verywell... so if i do have this i hope it's not too much trouble ot fix..i also fixed the holes in the floor however i'm gonnna get new ones this spring... How do i go about fixint the rust on the roof if it is how too many Z's said it might be? thanks alot guys/galsI love this car
