January 5, 200322 yr comment_22205 which is the 1990-1996 the n/a version had 222 at the crank and the turbo pushed out 300 at the crank one convert that i saw that fit well and looked fantastic was the use of the MKIII version or the 1987-1992 toyota supra engine. your still straigh six en it, 200 hp at the crank on the n/a, and 232 at the crank on the turbo. supra sixes make very easy and streetable hp to the 500 hp range though that might be a bit much in a small Z either way it is a great combo no matter what route you choose. just remember both the 84-89 nissan 3.0 and the 90-96 3.0 have very and i mean very expensive parts. 90+ na tbelt parts alone $354, why, no one else carries them, hardly, at least the important things like the tensioner that your required to replace, $129, water pump, $98, so you see where your money really goes . i have seen a 78 280Z with a Z32 tt, that was one AWESOME machine Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3952-300-zx-engine-in-a-240/?&page=2#findComment-22205 Share on other sites
January 7, 200322 yr comment_22389 In Japan, I've heard the smog laws are so tough that they need to replace the engines after ~30-40,000 miles. I've also heard that they export these used engines to the U.S. and you can get them pretty cheap. Now, whether or not you could get a 300Z TT engine and where, I don't know. Anyone heard any ideas along these lines? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/3952-300-zx-engine-in-a-240/?&page=2#findComment-22389 Share on other sites
January 7, 200322 yr comment_22433 Replace the engine? don't know, I think it more likely they export their old cars to other countries and buy new ones, some how I don't see your average Japanese car owner organizing an engine change. March 21, 200322 yr comment_30801 Does anyone have a car with any of these swaps? I wonder how high the stick shift sits over the counsole.I am really turned off by how high the auto stick usually sits on the SBC v8 conversions.(at least the ones I've seen.)It looks all wrong for the Z to me. March 21, 200322 yr comment_30889 Just a note on the Jap engines for export. The deal is that these are low milage engines, guaranteed under 30k, that are pulled from totalled cars and shipped to the states (and probably elsewhere) since Japan is so short on land they really do not have any junk yards like we do here in the states. How do I know all this? I had a Jap pull out put in a Honda I owned years ago after blowing the motor. Poor little Accord...I treated that thing so bad...won some autoxes in her though! :classic: Just not what that car was made for so it didn't hold up to the abuse too well. 1 tranny rebuild, 2 engines, 4 clutches, carb mods, et all.
