Posted May 14, 201113 yr comment_355742 Hello! I recently purchased a 1982 280zx turbo as my daily driver, but as expected it has quite a few problems. Im young and dont know alot about this car so hopefully you guys can help me keep this thing running so i can get to work every day! A few to start out with: 1. Does anyone else have a ridiculous amount of electrical problems? 2. which one would you fix first: parking brake, power steering, speedometer? May 14, 201113 yr comment_355755 Welcome to the community, you will find a vast amount of collective knowledge here. My knowledge is limited to Series 1 and Series II cars so I will leave your questions for someone qualified to answer them. Again, Welcome. jlp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39570-my-first-z/#findComment-355755 Share on other sites
May 14, 201113 yr comment_355769 Welcome to the site!I'll try to answer your questions as well as I can. The first thing you need is the Factory Service Manual. You can download it for free at Xenon's site. Here is the link http://www.xenons130.com/reference.html. As far as the electrical system goes you will find it somewhat complicated but nothing to be afraid of. The first thing you should do is to check and clean every electrical connection you can. Pay particular attention to any sensors and the ECU in the passenger compartment. The ECU is located on the drivers side footwell. Also check for any loose or cracked vacuum lines. Vacuum leaks can cause a host of problems on the S130. In regards to which item you should fix first, they are all kind of important. Speedometer is probably most important as far as daily driving goes followed by the parking brake and the power steering. Depending on what the problem is, the power steering is also potentially going to be the hardest and most expensive problem to fix.
