Question for Revell 240Z builders

Revell has issued a new one, I bought them on Ebay from a shop in GA. They have a website www.modelroundup.com they have them in stock for 9.90. Fast shippers. I haven't done a model in 10 years so I bought 2, the first as a "tester" and the second to make it look nice. They are white and painting them sucks (unless you know what you are doing)...... I haven't gotten the first one done.

If anyone wants to trade a finished one for an unfinished one I'm willing ROFL ROFL ROFL

for the really fine stuff nothing can replace a steady hand and a fine brush.

Eagle eyes are not needed. For intricate detail work one of those magnifying glasses that have a movable stand make things as big as you need to see them.

3M makes a boatload of masking tape in as little as 1/4' in wide. I use masking tape very often and have several sizes in the shop. You can get it at hobby shops or look for those craft store chains. They carry more brush styles and sizes than any hobby shop I have seen. Art supply stores are great too.

I happen to have in my basement a 4'/8' plywood work bench that is pure heaven for building models. Also, it has a large window that looks right into to garage for making me feel guilty that I am fiddling with a 1/24th scale Z car, rather than working on any of mine :sleepy:

It's a very relaxing break from the real thing though and would never give up models!!

On large areas, like the body:

Mask with tape, lightly prime it with a can or primer then paint it with a can of spay paint. Use light coats to build up the color, instead of heavy coats, coz that will fill up fine detail like badges and seams.

The finish you get from a can will be better than that with a brush, especially if you are a novice.

Just practice spraying on a piece of cardboard to get a feel for how far to hold the can away grom the model, and how fast to move it to avoid getting runs in the paint.

If you get a run on the model, you can either leave it to dry then sand it back, or wipe it straight away with turps or paint thinner (whatever it says on the can) then let it dry and sand it (less sanding if you do it that way), But be careful that the paint thinner (and paint for that matter) isn't destructive to the plastic. test it on a piece of th model that you aren't going to use (eg the moulding frame that the peices are attached to).

or just go and buy a die cast model.

Kyosho make the better one.

Sun-Star is good, but the window frames seem a little thick, but i think it's about half the price.
