Posted May 18, 201113 yr comment_356130 Hey all, I'm once again thinking about exhaust, and I need some info from someone who has the MSA Premium flanged exhaust. I need the length of the longer straight section of the center pipe. Can anyone help me with this? May 18, 201113 yr comment_356145 I can get it later today. Just waking up and my resto with that kit (still in box) is just 6km away. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39611-customizing-my-msa-flanged-exhaust/#findComment-356145 Share on other sites

May 18, 201113 yr comment_356172 Hi Arne, It is a pleasure. The pipe just has one bend so I measured along the shortest side of the pipe (inside line of bend) from the outer flanges to the centre of the bend. The measurement includes the flange's thickness. The longer side of ther pipe to the bend (between arrows in your photo) is 23.5". The other section from the flange to the bend is 18". The flanges are 3/16" thick. I bet you are thinking "glass pack" So am I. May 18, 201113 yr Author comment_356175 Perfect. Thanks.Yes, "glass pack" is one part. The ugly DynoMax never coming out of its box is another... May 18, 201113 yr comment_356178 Glad to help! I was thinking that two glass packs (one where you show) and one where the muffler goes would be a nice system. May 18, 201113 yr Author comment_356179 In addition to one in the center, I'm thinking about splitting the system at the rear for a stacked pair of glass-packed tips. May 19, 201113 yr comment_356195 For your reference;I just saw this variation of two vertical pipes out back: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39611-customizing-my-msa-flanged-exhaust/#findComment-356195 Share on other sites
May 19, 201113 yr comment_356200 I put a glass pack on my MSA system in about that place. One issue is that the pipe runs really close to the side of the transmission tunnel, and the sausage muffler ended up touching the body. I put some heater-hose spacers in to keep the distance, but for those who aren't happy with "shade tree mechanics slop" you may end up having to do some custom bending. May 19, 201113 yr Author comment_356201 Good to know, Walter. Did you use a typical 4" diameter sausage? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39611-customizing-my-msa-flanged-exhaust/#findComment-356201 Share on other sites

May 20, 201113 yr Author comment_356304 Should be no problem putting a 16-18" glasspack in there. I know that there are a few small diameter units to consider, some as small as 3.5" diameter for 2.5" pipe. Might fit better in the tunnel, but also might not quiet it much. Not much room for packing.Still trying to work out the best option in the rear. I really would prefer to keep the dual stacked look I now have. But if I go with a 3.5" dia. in the middle, I may need a more substantial muffler at the rear. Might build a mockup of one option this weekend.
