Customizing my MSA flanged exhaust

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm once again thinking about exhaust, and I need some info from someone who has the MSA Premium flanged exhaust. I need the length of the longer straight section of the center pipe. Can anyone help me with this?

Hi Arne,

It is a pleasure.

The pipe just has one bend so I measured along the shortest side of the pipe (inside line of bend) from the outer flanges to the centre of the bend. The measurement includes the flange's thickness. The longer side of ther pipe to the bend (between arrows in your photo) is 23.5". The other section from the flange to the bend is 18".

The flanges are 3/16" thick.

I bet you are thinking "glass pack" :) So am I.

I put a glass pack on my MSA system in about that place. One issue is that the pipe runs really close to the side of the transmission tunnel, and the sausage muffler ended up touching the body. I put some heater-hose spacers in to keep the distance, but for those who aren't happy with "shade tree mechanics slop" you may end up having to do some custom bending.

Should be no problem putting a 16-18" glasspack in there. I know that there are a few small diameter units to consider, some as small as 3.5" diameter for 2.5" pipe. Might fit better in the tunnel, but also might not quiet it much. Not much room for packing.

Still trying to work out the best option in the rear. I really would prefer to keep the dual stacked look I now have. But if I go with a 3.5" dia. in the middle, I may need a more substantial muffler at the rear. Might build a mockup of one option this weekend.
