240 hood adjustment

I have a 72. Just fitted the hood after some paint work. It went on in the same position that it was. The hood is sitting higher at the front than it did before, or it seems to be. Is there a way to lower it? I can push it lower, but the torque springs push it up again.

It is sitting about half an inch too high. If I slot the bolt holes will I gain some adjustment?

Yes you could do that but you should figure out why it is not sittibg the same first.

I had the same problem when I replaced my hood after doing some detailing to the engine bay. When I replaced mine the hood was when open tipped towards the car in the bolt holes. I loosened the bolts and tipped (pushed) the hood towards the front or up higher in the air and that fixed my miss alignment. I even had the hinges off and they were replaced in the same spots and bolted down.

If you cleaned and/or painted the hinges, good chance the pivot points are dry and providing a bit of resistance that prevents the hood front from fully dropping into position. Try lubing all the pivots with a drop or two of light oil, or - if you have it, a spritz of aerosol dry lube (commonly used for guns and reels). Dry lube leaves a "teflon-like" coating, does not attract and hold grit.

The thing is I have done nothing that should affect the way the hood sits. I thought there may be slop in the hinge pivot pins,

But they are, or appear to be all tight.I thought I might remove the torque rods to see if that has any effect on the way the hood sits. Are the rods easy enough to refit.? The hinges had not been cleaned or painted. I will also try lubing the hinges. and also try adjusting the position.

I have seen other S30s with this problem as well. Is it a problem?

I think I have discovered the problem. I removed both torsion rods, and have found there is a little wear in each of

the pins that the hinge rotates on. The ends of the pins appears to be peened over, so I guess the way to remove them

is to grind the end off. Has anyone done this repair /replaced the hinge pins?
