June 3, 201113 yr comment_357672 Welcome to the Z world. Just to let you know there are two Datsun car clubs here in the valley. One is Desert Z Association http://www.desertzassociation.com/ . The other is Desert Datsuns http://desertdatsuns.freeforums.org/index.php. Both have members who have a lot of knowledge. Go to http://www.xenons30.com site and download the FSM. By the way where is your brothers shop?? June 3, 201113 yr comment_357673 After looking at your pics it appears that there have been some mods. As you have mentioned you have a 5 spd. These years only came with 4spds.however If you want to go back to a 4spd I have one that I would trade. The exhaust may also be after market as the exhaust tip looks to be larger than stock. Does it have a header?? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39730-brand-new-to-zs-need-a-little-guidance/?&page=2#findComment-357673 Share on other sites

June 13, 201113 yr comment_358521 I have found my vin # and build date and now am confused' date=' vin reads HLS30 55789 with a build date of 11/71. So not having seen a title yet, as i have not yet driven it, would I be safe to think this is not actually a 71 but a 72?[/quote']The official build dates for the 1972 model year was 8/71-8/72 or there-abouts. For '73, Nissan did a little skip in the numbering - '73s started at exactly 120000.Anyway, with an 11/71 build date, it is a '72, not a '71. Which is actually a better starting point for a driver - the transmissions were stronger and easily upgraded to 5 speed (as has apparently been done), the differential was relocated to a better spot (less stress on the halfshaft u-joints), etc.Good looking start. Have fun! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39730-brand-new-to-zs-need-a-little-guidance/?&page=2#findComment-358521 Share on other sites
