Posted May 30, 201113 yr comment_357331 My car has no balls, so I did a compression test. I only did a dry test, because I did not see a large deviation in numbers. Does anyone think I should do a wet test too? Here are my results on an engine at or close to operating temperature. From the firewall to the radiator fan as follows150, 136, 149, 149, 134, 139. Thoughts? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39739-dry-compression-test-results-opinions/ Share on other sites
May 30, 201113 yr comment_357334 thats dead on 10% variation, I didn't look up wear limits, but I don't think thats enough to neuter the motor. May 31, 201113 yr Author comment_357416 I guess everyone else feels this is well within normal? Must be something else that is coming out of my tailpipe. Raw fuel from the EGR being dismantled? I would think this would be a lean condition having all this emissions stuff off the car... May 31, 201113 yr comment_357419 What would it hurt to do a wet test? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39739-dry-compression-test-results-opinions/#findComment-357419 Share on other sites
May 31, 201113 yr comment_357435 you could do a wet test, but from what you are complaining about, i dont think you need to. It is mainly to tell you if you are leaking passed the rings or the valves. If you are short of power, i would not suspect the smog stuff either. First start checking that every thing is working and set correctly. first, has anything changed? Check the injectors. Are they all working. You can set a screw driver to each one and put your ear to it. If it is working then you will here a click. These cars get corroded connections on the injectors all the time. If one or two stops working all the time, you may only notice a lack of power. Check the timing. Pour ignition timing will cause a lack of power. Also any vacuum hoses, fuel filter, fuel pressure. If you can give me more specific info on what your are experiencing, i can help you find the problem. I am working with the same year of car, and i have become very familiar with this car. Just a lack of power would not condemn the engine. If you had blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust or dead misses in the engine, and one or two low cylinder readings, i would do the wet test, but it is going to be something less saver. June 16, 201113 yr comment_358901 check plugs and wires, to make shure all cylinders are firing, follow advice on injectors, and check fuel starvation, by using kwick start fluid through vacum line, and follow procedure on tune up, your motor seems ok. according comptressioin test.Good luck.
