Alternative PCV Filter material in the block

Just tore down a short block. The folded mesh material in the block where the tube to the PCV valve has rusted to mush. Is there a synthetic material substitute that can be used to replace it?

Probably, but you can fold up a replacement out of metal fly wire and it will last the life of the engine.

It is a very efficient oil/vapor separator so don't be tempted to use anything that may clog up and render it useless.

Believe it or not you can still get them new from Nissan. I bought two brand new last week for $12.00 a piece. Guy

I was thinking stainless steel mesh may be the way to go. The stuff that was in the L24 turned into iron crud/mud/crust above the bottom 3 folds.

Fortunately I found a spare from an L28 block that I took apart and forgot about. I'll degrease and inspect.If it is no good then Nissan dealer is my friend.
