Posted June 4, 201113 yr comment_357741 Greetings, fellow Earthlings,I've been doing a painstakingly slow restoration on a 1970 240z (am in year number 4....so far:ermm:). My Z and I live in Arizona and we are members of Desert Z Association. I wish I had found this site years ago, as it appears as though there is a wealth of information from all of you that could have saved me alot of time and money.Anyway, I am getting pretty close to finishing my project but have come up with snag that I can't seem to fix. I had removed the original 3-point seat belt harnesses in order to have the metal parts rechromed. Now I find myself, some 2 years later, with 8 different belts of various lengths and can't seem to figure out how to re-assemble them. Would anyone have any information/diagram/ instructions on how to re-assemble these? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.z-ya soon,Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39787-new-member-with-a-new-question-regarding-an-old-car/ Share on other sites
June 4, 201113 yr comment_357757 Are these the type of belts you have? Early - lift buckle? Or do you have the push-button buckle? June 4, 201113 yr comment_357765 Their is companies that will replace the belts for you, you might want to give one a call and send your parts to them. However you still need to know how long the straps are. I can't do it now, I got to work today, but I could go measure and snap some pictures for you. Mine are out of the car right now. June 4, 201113 yr Author comment_357779 Judging by the photos from 26thz and blue, I can see that 4 of my pieces connect to form 2 belts....one for each side. That helps some. However, am still not clear on how these would be assembled to form a complete harness. Also, does anyone know if a complete harness will fit either side (driver/passenger), or are these "side-specific"? Finally, while on the subject, I also need to re-install my luggage straps.....any pics of the correct placement of these would be appreciated. Thanks everyone for your help. June 21, 201113 yr Author comment_359333 What a chocolate mess! Finally figured out why I couldn't get these seat belts reassembled and installed. When I had sent the belts out to be rechromed (the connectors/clips...not the webbing..), it seems that the plating shop put ALL of the harware back onto the wrong belts! I even found that 2 of the connectors required for the seatbelts had been installed on the ends of the luggage straps. Now, I guess I'll have to find someone who has both a mechanical aptitude AND a commercial sewing machine! Sad thing is....they had actually done a nice job with the stitching when reassembling the belts......just didn't put the hardware where it belonged. Anyone have any suggestions on where I might look to find a seamstress/mechanic with a high-performance, turbo-charged sewing machine? June 21, 201113 yr comment_359380 Bummer and sad. Can you take it back to the shop that dropped the ball? They should be responsible for their error Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39787-new-member-with-a-new-question-regarding-an-old-car/#findComment-359380 Share on other sites
