Rechroming taillight surrounds

I have my panels off the back of my car to repaint them. I figured while I had them off for paint I would replate the plastic taillight surrounds. Has anyone had this done? What was the cost?

There are a couple of options to re-chroming the rims around the taillights. I went through this and it is discussed on another thread... But here is the gist of it. There are a couple of places that do Vacuum Metalization on plastic but it is VERY expensive, I mean like $200 each. I have the list and they are mentioned on the other thread.

There is another place in Dallas that does a kind of chrome paint - The results are nice and the price is right -but it is very fragile. This is the route I took -but it sucks as the finish has actually vanished off of the taillights right as the Z has been in my garage! I mean holy crap, presto chango and its gone! I think that I pointed it out to you when you visited.

What I would suggest (and what I am going to do next) is re-spray the rims with Rust Oleum Chrome Paint and be done with it. Come by and check it out again if you want.

Last year, I sent approx. 22 pieces of mixed parts (some plastic, some metal) overseas to be rechromed for my personal z car project. Parts included a full set of "D" hubcaps, multiple chrome center taillight strips for a 240z, seat belt buckles, original metal emblems for a series 1 z, etc. I understood that my cost savings would be substantial and was willing to take the risk that the quality may not meet my expectations. Fortunately, I was very pleased with the overall results (both costs and quality) and am now considering doing this on a recurring basis as an actual business venture. If you're interested, I'll keep you and any other club members in the loop on my progress as I am tentatively planning to send a much larger quantity of items for replating in September.

I'll continue to follow up on this thread to see who else has an interest in having some of their parts rechromed. I am thinking that the next batch that I send will be largely comprised of center taillight strips (240z) and taillight surrounds/bezels from 260z and 280z. Also, will be attempting to acquire some good cores from any of you that have extra parts laying around. Will also be shipping some additional emblems and badges (metal ones) from the early 240z's. If any members have some other needs or special requests, let me know.
