The web site still takes a long time to load and post. It times out quite often. It's about 50-50 on when it behaves at a "normal" speed, like other web sites, or goes in to a waiting-for-something to happen mode.

Not to complain, just saying that something is not quite right. Maybe it's just me and my Mozilla Firefox web-browser, with some Spam and pop-up blockers?

The updated forum software is more CPU and memory intensive, and so the site is slower when being used heavily. There are plans afoot for a move to better hardware when Mike gets the time. Hopefully sometime in the next few months. The migration of the sites 30+ GB of data is a big project.

Arne is correct, the new software is more hungry on resources. After the upgrade, I noticed a big increase in both Apache (web server) and MySQL (database) processor use. The hard drive access has also increased to a point where the drive seek times are always bouncing around. The delays you are seeing are a result of multiple users during peak times. The performance bounces up and down throughout the day. The performance hit is due to a hardware problem and not our internet provider.

We are moving to a higher end piece of equipment. The current server is a single proc and has a basic HDD array setup. The new system has double the capacity in every way (CPU, memory, and HDD arrays). I've also done some research and found that moving the database to a separate drive partition also helps speed up the system, so that's another improvement.

The upgrade should happen over the next month, so, please stay tuned as the migration usually takes a day or two. Thanks for your patience, guys.
