Posted June 7, 201113 yr comment_358027 Just what I said. Broke the hood release cable. I have to go out of town for a few days and don't have time for a broad search. How the heck do you get under the hood to fix this? Taking off the hindges dosen't look like the answer. Ok McGuivers, what flavor bubblegum do I need to fix this mess? June 7, 201113 yr comment_358061 Unfortunately, that topic comes up fairly often. I was lucky that when my hood release cable broke, it was just after the latch released. I did a jury rig fix with some braided cable until I got another proper cable. June 13, 201113 yr Author comment_358607 Ok I made the tool described in the other threads, but I'm having a heck of a time getting the damn thing open.Could I get one of you fine people to post a pic of the 73 style latch where the cable connects so I can visualize my target. It would be a great help. June 14, 201113 yr comment_358702 We, (fire department), carry a rod with a t-handle on the end the rod has a cut down the middle, approximately 1”, on the business end. We, when a cable has melted or is otherwise not working find a way into the cable according to where the cable and or latch is located put the cut over the cable and start turning as the cable tightens it releases the latch. jlp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39821-broken-hood-release-cable-this-looks-like-trouble/#findComment-358702 Share on other sites
