Steering wheel squeak

Reverend

Recommended Posts

My Z has annoying habit of squeaking. Firstly i tought that the sound comes from pedals but soon i realised it came from the steering wheel. It does not squeak when turned BUT when driving over small bumps etc. I tested it and it makes the sound only when lifting it up or pushing the wheel down. It's very loud noise and i need to get rid of it. I cant locate the excact place where it comes, maybe you guys can help? :stupid:

The first turn of the day, out of my driveway, when I straighten out my wheel quickly from a hard turn, I often get a loud "honk" as the steering shaft vibrates around in the column. :( That's on my list of to-do things. I presume I have to pull the entire column and slather it with grease. I don't have suggestions/solutions for you. This is just a sympathy post. ;)

FWIW, try a dab of dielectric grease on the horn thingum that connects the steering wheel to the round copper ring. I had an annoying little squeal and that took care of it. Also check to make sure the combo/turn signal switch is tight.

Mine squeaks as well but it's the Plastic of the Column cover, rubbing on the adaptor hub of my GT steering wheel.

So I need to either remove a little material or grease it a little. Clutch pedal squeaks too.

Always something to do, but it keeps me out of trouble,

Dave

Ah, that is a different kettle of fish. I had the same issue and lubed the pin...didn't have any effect. Then I lubed the spring where it connects with the pedal and voila' no more squeek for about 6 months. I now lube it as part of the overall maintenance plan. Hope this helps.

Cheers, Mike
