So what should I do since my car will be registered tomorrow for the first time in over a year?

So far I have-

-changed oil

-filters

-plugs

-coolant

-drained fuel

-brakes are ok but will change fluid next week

-tune carbs next week

ummm, what else? Is there any additives I can use to clean the engine or something like that?

You might want to double check your points and possibly replace them along with the condensor. Just a little added insurance with only a small cash outlay..... might even change the plug wires if they seem hard or brittle at all.

Be sure to check the rear brake cylinders and all the lines (if they are still the original rubber lines) for leaks when you do the brakes.

It might not be a bad idea to change the oil and filter again after you drive it for a while in case any crud dislodges after you start it up. As far as cleaning additives, the oil should have enough additives to take care of that.

You ought to put a little oil down in the cylinders before you fire it up, just to be sure the rings have some lube, and spin it over with the coil wire unhooked for a minute until you see the engine has oil pressure on the gauge. After it builds up pressure and lubes the engine, hook up the coil wire and fire it up.

Be sure to check the clutch master cylinder also, and rock the car with it in gear to make sure the clutch disc is not rusted to the flywheel/pressure plate.

Should be about it with what you have already done.....Oh, make sure the chokes work....:stupid: that might help to get it started....

The car starts pretty well and idles smoothly after the initial shock of being started. I haven't driven it for long distances though.

Plug wires are fairly new and the clutch is new along with a reco 260 tranny. It used to be an auto untill recently.

Will do the points.

The choke doesn't seem to be making much difference so I'll get that checked out.

Otherwise I'm ready to rock 'n roll by the looks of things.

Ozzy, have you talked to Shannons Classic Insurance yet about an agreed value policy, to cover your investment. Sydney is a wild place when it comes to traffic. With such a great car I would hate to see it on the road with no cover. Enjoy your first day of rego, I bet we will be able to see your smile from Brisbane.

Steve, Shannons has a personal vandetta against me. Well, it's not really their fault. You see I've had a license suspension for speeding. One of the resons I sold my Skyline. The other one was insurance was extortional.

I'm going with Just Cars who are the only ones other than NRMA who will insure me. NRMA only does market value which is $4,500AUS. I'll be 25 in a little over 3 months so it should proove easier to find better cover then.

Try Vigil insurance, There the ones I have been covered with I've got 3 speeding fines since I've got my license I'm 21 almost. The first one was 30km/h over the limit the other 2 were 15km/h or under.

I had to provide them with photo's for an agree'd value. It would be a shame to see anything happen to a Z like that especially considering how much it's really worth. I'm paying $800 + a year and that's only 3rd party fire and theft. No full comp :-(. Insurance are assholes to us young guys especially.

I think it's a shame cause if your a young guy who's enthusiastic about a classic car then it would go to show that you wouldn't wanna be a dickhead driver and write off such a machine.
