Nah, don't sell -- unless you really don't like the car, that is. Heck, the electrical stuff isn't all that hard, particularly in a 240. The worst case is that you rip out every wire in the car and start fresh. Many of the connectors can be found here:

You can substitute non-original styles of connectors in many places, e.g. where one harness plugs into another. If you have no other choice, you can re-use old connectors by snipping the wires and splicing them into your new wiring. Learn to crimp and solder. It's not rocket science -- videos on YouTube.

Your car couldn't be much worse than my 1977 cabin cruiser when I bought it. (Note: Large cabin cruisers live in the salt water around here. Wrap your imagination around what the wiring might look like after a few decades.) I rewired the entire boat from bow to stern. It took me about a day.

Yep I now exactly what you mean. When I look at wiring issues a grey haze comes over me:ermm: One exception was Daves headlight relay harness . I found that a breeze.

If I had money I'd at least shoot you an offer I hate to see a car in decent condition like that get neglected. I'd love to turn that 240 into a asphalt eating beast.

You will have much more action selling the car if you take GOOD detailed pictures of every angle of the outside, interior, including underneath showing the frame rails, wheel wells, dog legs, battery tray, torsion bar mounts, etc..

I have got a lot of pics of the car, not the undercarriage yet, but I will get it on a rack monday and take some.

Just a guess, but maybe an electrical specialist could straighten out your instruments and flashers for $500 or so. Or maybe your brother-in-law could help. It would seem a pity to sell a car just because it's got a few electrical issues.

I agree with Sarah, I purchased a '77 280z where the PO did a complete hack job with the wiring. It took me about a week or so to straighten everything out, but with the help of the available wiring diagrams and the awesome Z Club members it was not hard at all.......and i had no previous experience. At most, your gonna need some patients.

I have decided to take the advice and try to tackle this wiring, either I'll get it straight or I will be completely bald by the time I am done with this.

Now all I need to do is get the nerve up to stop staring at it and get to work.

all you need is a good voltmeter and the wiring schematic.

It will take me awhile to figure out how to use the voltmeter! I decided I could wire new lights to my camper, I spent 3 hours trying to figure out why a wire that showed lights when it was attached to my truck, would not show hot on my test light. turns out the ground was not good on the test light. Multi meters or voltmeters have choices, I can only imagine that frickin nightmare.

good morning all , when I got my Z the price was reduced drastically for electrical reasons . 2800 $drive home price , it did not have any turn signals at all . The po had a specialty shop look at it and they said everything was in need of renewal '' a wallet grab I believe '' . I read a article on hybredz and there was a guy who took apart the steering column and exposed the turn signal switch and went on to explain how with a small brass shim he was able to improve the the friction on the rocker in the switch . there is a part in there that is plastic and it wares out over time . I followed the directions and put it all back together and '' bravo '' turn signals at all four corners ! I took pics of the process so u can PM me and I can send some shots to u to show the way . I'm off to a lacrosse game so I will respond later .
