Posted June 21, 201113 yr comment_359364 I own a 73 240z that the PO converted to electronic ignition. I have no idea what the system is. How can I determine what the system is? I think it's the orginal dizzy but not sure. The car has a blue Bosch super coil. In the black dragon catalog it says this coil can not be used with electronic ignition.. Advise Please. My car runs good when it runs but when it get hot it just dies. I wait a while and it will run again. It is not over heating and I have verified clean fuel filters, etc, At this point I can not drive it because of this issue. My thoughts, wrong coilor bad electronic ignition. Any ideas? June 23, 201113 yr comment_359496 Click on the Go Advanced button below this thread on the right side of the screen. After you do that, the advanced features should appear between the text box for a Title and the text box for the message. Click on the paperclip. That will allow you to upload files. June 23, 201113 yr comment_359533 That's a Pertronix Ignitor. I agree, we need to see how it's connected at the coil, and what else is connected there.WAG - the Bosch coil is overheating?? Maybe? June 23, 201113 yr comment_359565 I see no ballast resistor, is that correct? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39972-coil-and-electronic-ignition-question/#findComment-359565 Share on other sites
June 23, 201113 yr Author comment_359572 Correct I'm told this coil does not require one. According to Black Dragon catalog it says this coil is not for electronic ignition. June 23, 201113 yr comment_359575 While there appear to be several versions of the Bosch Blue, they all seem to be about 3Ω rated, and so you're right, they should not need a resistor. That doesn't change the fact that something is overheating and causing the car to stop. There's really only two choices here - the coil or the Pertronix unit in the dizzy. When the car dies - does it die all at once (like switching off the ignition), or does it start missing and coughing and then die? Here's another thought - are you sure the problem is ignition? What fuel pump are you running? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/39972-coil-and-electronic-ignition-question/#findComment-359575 Share on other sites
June 23, 201113 yr Author comment_359577 The car just dies like switching it off. It's a 73 with both the mechancial and elcetric fuel pump. I have another coil it is a Blaster 2 but I don't know the ohm rating for it so not sure if I should try it.Do you think the coil is acting up. Why does Black Dragon say not for electronic ignition?I'd like to try another coil before I change the ignition. What would you recomenend?
