July 8, 201113 yr comment_360985 Glad you made it back ok Mike. Did you stop at the Mammoth site?I have never driven a z car that didn't have any creaks or rattles. And I can verify that you don't need a matchbook to keep the 8 track playing. I forgot how good Johnny Cash can sound on an 8 track. I didn't get a chance to sample the cap'tn and Teniele.BTW, it's the auto shift assembly that is left in Boulder along with the transmission. The console was re-used.But back to the car, it is a true time capsule. The paint job isn't too bad considering it's a mask job. It's still good for a car show and the lack of wear on the car at all will show that. July 8, 201113 yr comment_360987 Mike could use some help on a couple of issues. I gave him a shift lever for a s30 5 speed with the bronze bushings installed. Right now it has the zx shift lever installed, it's a little too short but still works. He is using the white spdo cog that came with the late 5 speed along with it's carrier. I sent the carrier that came out of the auto with the black cog. He could either make another notch on the carrier and put it in the 5 spd or swap out the cogs between the carriers. Those are the only two issues I know of that I wished would have been done while it was still here.Alex from A&M Automotive in Boulder is a good guy. He is also into 510's.Holy smoke! Jim here from the Calgary Z club! Michael, we have to get together and see this thing! Congrats on the find! Send me an email to z240@shaw.ca and we'll exchange phone info. I can help with all your mechanical issues too. Lots of experience in town to help with just about anything!Any chance of bringing it the Edmonton Z club show and shine this weekend on Sunday?http://www.edmontonzcarclub.com/pages/main.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40123-lucky-4000-mile-z/?&page=2#findComment-360987 Share on other sites
July 8, 201113 yr comment_360988 Michael, thanks for the dimensions on the window sticker. Sorry about the year being wrong, I was a little excited to see how close our cars are.I used a white polishing block with a drill and polishing pad. Was pretty easy, the cover came off the car real easy. July 8, 201113 yr Author comment_360989 Darrel knows more about my car than I do. (He probably always will).Darrel spent weeks overseeing the purchase and work on my car and I greatly appreciate. No I went the shortest route because I was scared of something going wrong on the car that hadn't really been driven in 20 or 35 years. I will take the family to the Mammoth site- sounds cool.I did see Doublewoppers beautiful Columbus, MT.Got lots of offers to trade the car- a cowgirl in a Ram Truck in Douglas WY, a big Coke truck at a gas station in Billings. The Calgary Z club has reached out and I am heading to a show in Edmonton on Sunday with a long list of touch up questions. From the Alberta inspection I had the drivers wheel bearing repacked (noticed a difference) and have ordered the 16 bushings for the stabilizer bars (dry rot) and a new driver's weatherstripping both from Courtesy. Nissan Canada just kind of shrug when I inquired on parts. Lucky to have the contacts through the forum. The paint will improve when I get a chance to polish and wax but it is a classic 4 foot paint job. Jim in Calgary has helped me and knows a good local paint guy. Thanks again. July 8, 201113 yr comment_360993 Your paint job is still good Michael, only wish mine was better I have to totally sand to metal then find the blemishes and then prime it black for now, at least. July 8, 201113 yr comment_360994 Sorry for the high jack support but if you are going to prime over bare metal, use epoxy primer after metal prep and degreaser. It is available in black, tan and white by most manufacturers. Bonds to almost anything and is water proof to protect the metal. Most other 2k primers are not truly water proof.FWIWCharlesNow back to your regularly scheduled program... July 8, 201113 yr comment_360996 Michael, what a fantastic find. Darrel is a great guy - you definitely found a good guy to help you out.I noticed your Z was purchased from Kurland Datsun on South Broadway here in Denver. I purchased my 79 280 ZX also from Kurland in Nov., 1978 and I still have it.I might be interested in the Auto transmission for my 72 240Z. Let me do some checking as to fit.LarryB Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40123-lucky-4000-mile-z/?&page=2#findComment-360996 Share on other sites
July 8, 201113 yr Author comment_361008 Sure let me know. The shop is closed for July but then after we could make arrangements. I got this neat KURLAND dealer emblem in my box of goodies. It is mint but was maybe taken off when the car was painted, I will ask. What models did Kurland sell, imports? Any European cars? I found my car in Estes Park. Darrel was a gentleman. July 8, 201113 yr comment_361011 I can't rememember if Kurland sold other marques. I know there was a Triumph dealer on Broadway. Perhaps there are some old Denver guys around who might remember. Your Kurland emblem looks good. It attaches with two small Phillips head screws on the left side below the hatch lid. My emblem is still on my 79 280ZX but is missing the circular part. No hurry on the transmission but I might want to pick it up and have one as a spare. My 240 is at the beginning of restoration and I will leave it as an automatic.LarryB Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40123-lucky-4000-mile-z/?&page=2#findComment-361011 Share on other sites
July 9, 201113 yr comment_361019 Larry, it will fit. Alex has the hard lines as well. Mike, you can leave a message at the shop to let them know someone is interested in the tranny and any other parts that came off.(flex plate, bolts, hard lines, shift plate)I sent Mike a google earth street shot of the kurland building,, at least the closest address. The building next door has "studebaker" on it.http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=39.734674,-104.987347&spn=0.000502,0.000776&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=39.734782,-104.987398&panoid=Ft1L2VE9lhG0fOdPolneCQ&cbp=12,82.51,,1,0 Edited July 9, 201113 yr by Darrel Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40123-lucky-4000-mile-z/?&page=2#findComment-361019 Share on other sites
