Posted July 31, 201113 yr comment_362867 Well, I have been driving the Z around for a good 2500 miles now with no problems, fun car indeed. Just recently I started hearing this noise from the rear end of the car. It only happens when turning left or right and it only happens randomly, not all the time. Usually at higher speed / harder turns if I take it real easy around the corner (streets) it doesn't happen. I think it might be the diff but I am unsure and I don't notice anything loose or broken from under the car.A search brought up a lot of threads but I could find none with anything similar to my problem. Any suggestions on what I should check first? Just for reference, this is a stock L24 4 speed. July 31, 201113 yr comment_362875 Check drum brakes and drive shafts (usually referred to as half-shafts). Also check strut housing and control arm hardware torques. July 31, 201113 yr comment_362889 Jack up the rear, one side at a time, and grab the wheel then pull/push - shake. Any slop or movement? Rear bearings may be shot in which case you will need new ones. You can also leave the trans in gear and try to spin the wheel to see is any thing moves to isolate the problem. I had a problem like you describe once that turned out to be loose differential mount bolts to the mustache bar.
