diff crossmember

Has anyone made the front crossmember that holds the differential to the body instead of buying it?? It has that flexible joint/attaching. It seems to be quite hard to get new ones here in Finland.... Can I change the rubber part or is it glued so that it is not possible?

Is there some alternatives to the factory mounting?? Do they use more durable parts on more powerfull cars??

You guys that have rb26dett?? Do you have original Nissan part on your differential mountings???

It is possible to weld up a new mount, you could just remove the rubber and replace it with a block of steel and weld the two sections together.

As far as replacing the rubber, it would be difficult to get the kind of bond that the stock rubber to metal has.'

You could also have one made from a block of aluminum, such as what the front diff mount available from Motorsport Auto is. I'm basically lazy, and used one of their solid diff mounts with good results on a car I used to race.

I have seen drawings of a fabricated mount. I tried to find them but came up empty. Pete Paraska send out once on a different site. His setup replaced the front diff mount insulator and the strap that goes over the top of the diff but maintains some quiet operation by using a GM trans mount. The rubber mount actually goes over the diff. I couldn't find by searching here. Send pparaska a private message and asking him to submit it. Or check www.hybridz.com for more info.

When I put an R200 in my 240 I replaced the front mount and strap with a sold steel mount from Arizona Zcar. It does transmit some noise into the cabin but it isn't too bad, and I only have the stock radio in my car. Of course I don't drive my Z everday and would rather listen to the all the noises of the car than the radio when in it!

Here's some very poor pictures (I need a new camera bad) of the one I've used for the last eight years. I purchased it from MSA. Also included are the dimensions I pulled off it. The 25x20mm round welded-on parts are threaded to accept the long bolts that hold the front of the R180 diff on. The other bolt's head is welded on and is used to mount the cross member to.

I seem to recall that the R180 mounting holes are in a bit different position for/aft than the R200, when you do a R180 to R200 conversion. If that's correct, the hole for the stud in the GM trans mount won't line up with the hole in the bracket, once the GM trans mount is bolted to the diff and you try to mount everything.
