1st - This site is AMAZING, and an incredible resource - kudos to the creators and participants

I have a 76 280z with 21K original miles - and yet even with that low mileage - I am still bringing her back to a better life. That is, one where she is driven (whenever its not raining or snowing).

This Summer - I thought I would try to bring back the AC.

The AC state: -

- everything seems to run - Ihavenot done a leak test or a vacumn pull

- bubbles are viewable through the recevier / drier when AC is running

- I have the original connections on the compressor - I assume the system is still R12

I'm not comfortable with the conversion to 134A yet (smaller molecules - pressure increases - etc). I recently bought some R12 on Ebay and I want to try recharging the system.

Does anyone know if these Datsun compressors used a universal type mount / thread and if these R12 recharge hose / kits they sell on EBAY will fit.

Nobody one up here (garages) will not put in R12 into a unit - and I cannot find a recharge hose - so I am going back to EBAY.

Thanks

Any comments on rechargin an R12 unit - would be helpful - I don't want to hurt the environment or myself....or my Z!!

get some r12 gauges on ebay first and check your pressures. all the can taps should be the same. hose to the a/c compressor fits the standard r12 hose. the problem with

cheap can taps is that once you open the can you have to use all the refrigerant otherwise

the freon leaks out over time.

Thanks - I was not going to get a set with gauges - but perhaps this is the wisest thing to do to understand the pressure in the system.

Can anyone verify?

- The vacumn pull only brings out the freon not the oil

- Can I have the system vacumned by a professional and then add my own R12 after to an empty system

- That I need a new dryer.

- That I add 9.5oz of Refrigerant Oil to the low side - what type is compatable with R12

- How do I check the current level of oil?

- Pull a vacuum to like (-25 to -30 atm) and let it sit for 30 mins.

- Check for leaks (Needle rising).

- If all is good and with the engine off, put one can of R12 in AS LIQUID (can held upside down) into the system. Start engine and top off with R12
