August 18, 201113 yr comment_364303 could it be that the knob is free spinning on the shaft of the switch? it may be that you just need a new knob... If not replace the switch. August 18, 201113 yr comment_364305 The jam nut may have come loose on the switch. Remove the knob and check the jam nut. August 18, 201113 yr Author comment_364310 indeed the entire aperatus is spinning behind the plastic...how do ya remove the knob? it did not want to pull off....heater/vent cables need to be removed prior to pulling the entire panel correct? I pulled four screws but panel doesn't want to come out yet...also there is an aftermarket kenwood stereo in it..but I don't think it has that metal strap in the rear Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40541-240z-heater-fan-switch-is-free-spinning-easy-work-around-for-it/#findComment-364310 Share on other sites
August 19, 201113 yr comment_364323 There is a slot for a small screwdriver on the bottom side of the know. Just loosen the screw about one turn. No need to remove the entire panel. The jam nut is on the face side. It's possible that the knob and shaft have obtained a zen state of oneness after all these years together and, even with the screw in your hand, the knob will crack before returning to this plane. So you may have to obtain a knob, unless you have better luck than I with adhesives. Heck, I'd bet your wife's car has one that would fit. Maybe not a good idea. An electroinics store, maybe even Radio Shack, will have one that fits that you can use until finding an unbroken original or, one marked "Eject" or "Radiation Level" at a garage sale, whichever is your preference.
