It'll be a shame if they never have anoher rotary engined sports car. Fun engines.....high-revving and a ton of power for the displacement. I had a '87 RX-7 and it was a blast. The only downside is bad fuel economy.

I wouldn't say that their fuel consumption is the only downside. They are also prone to live shorter lives (damn you apex seals!) and have a relatively diminutive amount of low end torque.

Don't get me wrong, they are nice cars with cool engines and very good power density, but to say the only downside is fuel consumption is simplifying the situation a bit too far.
