Coil-overs or Struts, Help please

I want to convert my 240 to have coil-overs but they are expensive for the custom set I can get through our shock guy. I am looking to lower the 240 slightly but retain the soft ride. I come from an off-road lifestyle so Im use to the feel of coil-overs and know how to work them the best as well as designing custom A-arms for various vehicles. I was excited to learn that the Z has IRS because it makes the build easier for me since i wont have to convert it to IRS. Further down the road i plan on adding more power to the car and will need that slightly stiffer ride but around my area there are lots of tight curves where softer would be better as well as a few places i could open the Z up where stiffer would be more helpful at higher speeds.

There are less expensive ways to lower a z besides coil overs

Performance springs is a common 1st step.

To me, people go with coilovers to allow suspension geometry adjustments and to make room for bigger tires. This is because the stock springs have a greater diameter than the coilovers. In other words, if you think in the future you might want to add significant negative camber or run much wider tires you might consider the coilovers now. If not, then blue is right, you should be able to get where you want to go with a set of lowering springs and shocks. These cars handle very well with this option. I've got a set of adjustable Tokico Illuminas and Eibach springs with low miles on them. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Im interested but I cant buy anything until I have more money because right now Im having to fix some rust spots. I think then im going to go with coil-overs because I am going to put wider tires on the Z in the future.

The S30 already has "coil overs." Its basic strut/coil spring design is a coil over suspension. You basically want to swap the 4" OD factory springs for 2.5" OD aftermarket springs and add an adjustable lower spring perch.
