Posted September 7, 201113 yr comment_365744 :mad:There are times when our 260Z starts right up like she is fuel injected and times when you turn the key and the solenoid clicks and nothing else. I also hear a click at times from a relay on the right front kick panel. I have a reman Hitachi starter and a new switch at the rear of the key cylinder. Any ideas what could be causing this? I have the shop manual and the only thing that looks like it is a interlock device and we have a 4 speed. September 7, 201113 yr comment_365748 Search... This has been discussed, analyzed and solved many times. It seems to be most common in the 260Z. Use google and put in something like "260z starter" or "starter relay", etc. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40700-starter-not-responding-at-times/#findComment-365748 Share on other sites

September 7, 201113 yr comment_365759 Use the word "Ford" in addition to those LeonV suggested. You'll find some fixes. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40700-starter-not-responding-at-times/#findComment-365759 Share on other sites
September 8, 201113 yr comment_365797 It could also be the seatbelt interlock relay. As Leon suggested, the information is available. You'll just have to do some sifting to find it. September 9, 201113 yr Author comment_365886 :sick:I think it is seatbelt interlock and I found wires cut along the seat mounts on the floor and I saw switches attached to the rails. I will wire them in and see what happens. September 9, 201113 yr comment_365897 At one time I posted what wires need to be jumpered on the seatbelt interlock to defeat it. Search through the archives to find it. I'm guessing you didn't search...:sick:I think it is seatbelt interlock and I found wires cut along the seat mounts on the floor and I saw switches attached to the rails. I will wire them in and see what happens. It's not the seatbelt interlock. Seriously, all this takes is some research. I highly recommend following-up on my first post in this thread. Get the FSM from xenons30.com, it has a very good wiring diagram which I have used to solve many problems in my 260Z. Wouldn't hurt to measure the voltage at the starter solenoid while trying to start the engine.Reattaching cut wires can have unintended consequences.
