Posted September 8, 201113 yr comment_365824 I am in desperate need of one. Two of the wheel stud holes are absolutely smooth, and therefore, won't hold a stud. Calling the salvage yards around is yielding no results. I'm in Costa Mesa, CA. If anyone locally has one, I got about $50 I can spend on one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. September 9, 201113 yr comment_365867 Are the holes over sized, if so Pep Boys has a full collection of wheel studs on the floor. You could take the hub there and find studs with larger shanks. September 9, 201113 yr Author comment_365870 Well the splines are gone on the hub. It's just a flat round surface. Does that really matter, though? I'd presume it's got some importance. The splines are meant to prevent the studs from turning while installed. Something that vibration can easily cause to do the opposite.Anyway, the guy said he'd give me the hub for $45. So pretty cheap. Which also enables me to put it back together and use it now. Whereas, if I were to do the Pep Boys thing you were referring to, I'd have to pay someone to repress the studs in. If push comes to shove, that's what I'll end up doing if this hub is not worth it. September 9, 201113 yr comment_365910 The splines are the to hold the stud in place, it's a tight fit that most every garage mech does with a hammer. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40714-front-passenger-hub/#findComment-365910 Share on other sites
September 9, 201113 yr comment_365987 The splines are on the studs. The bore in the hub is probably smooth when the hub is new and gets broached by the stud when it is installed. The lack of splines in the hub bore is not an issue per se, but it does indicate a lot of missing material which meas stock studs won't fit tightly enough.I used studs from ARP made for mid '90s Camaro/Firebird that are slightly larger in diameter on the spline. This might help. The pitfall here is these studs have a different thread pitch and are extra long. This solution would require new nuts as well.To get a used hub call Jack, he has lots of Z parts and is a good guy.
