Posted September 8, 201113 yr comment_365830 Hi All, I'm new to this forum. I recently finished the restoration of a 1973 240Z IMSA GTU car. The car was raced in IMSA with several different liveries from 1977 - 1979, but I chose the Anheuser Busch Natural Light configuration as raced in 1978 and 1979. The car was part of the initial Anheuser Busch sponsorship of auto racing in 1978. The other cars in the Anheuser Busch stable were the famous 240Z Budweiser cars of Paul Newman and Sam Posey, the Budweiser Indy car driven by Pancho Carter and this car, initially driven by James Brolin. The Budweiser cars were supposed to win championships, the Anhueser Busch car was to introduce Natural Light and sell beer! I've now "raced" the car in 4 events, including being accepted to the Monterey Historics last month with Dave Stone and his Bob Sharp 1970 240Z! We competed in the GTU/GTO/GTX group with some pretty special other cars. I've attached (hopefully) some of the shots from the weekend. Enjoy! September 8, 201113 yr comment_365837 Hi Bob:Good to hear from you. Your Z really looks great and I'm sure you had a ball running in such great company.Tell us where you found the car and how long it has taken to get it ready for track duty again. How about some pictures of the engine compartment and interior - and tell us more about the research you did in order to get the car back to its period correct current configuration etc. Is this the car that ran at Daytona as well?FWIW,Carl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40715-240z-photos-at-monterey-motorsports-reunion-laguna-seca-aug-18-22/#findComment-365837 Share on other sites
September 8, 201113 yr Author comment_365840 Hi Carl,As you can imagine, this has been a very time consuming (and FUN!) project that's been 4 years in the making. It will take me a while to put together the "story" on finding this car and hoping it was a real IMSA car, starting the research and finally bringing it back to life.I'll try and put together the story so I can post it here along with more photo's. I have a restoration / documentation book i've put together and showed the true Z fans at the races, it's really neat. Be patient! September 9, 201113 yr comment_365955 Hi Bob, I got to see your car at the Coronado Festival of Speed last year, I have picture of Les under it....I think he was bleeding the clutch slave. It is really a beautiful car, well done. September 9, 201113 yr Author comment_365989 Hi David,Thanks for the compliment! I'll be at Coronado again this year, will you be there? I'm running in a different group (over 2.5L production cars), so I should be a little more competitive....Bob Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40715-240z-photos-at-monterey-motorsports-reunion-laguna-seca-aug-18-22/#findComment-365989 Share on other sites
